Day made an incredible comeback in the third round, after collapsing on the ninth fairway during round two of the tournament.

Day looked shaky at the start of his third round, and bogeyed two of the first four holes, but recovered on the back nine with five birdies to have him sitting at -4 through 54 holes.

Day made some incredible shots, capping off a brilliant round with clutch putts on the 17th and 18th holes to claim a share of the clubhouse lead at the conclusion of his round.

Australian golfing legend Greg Norman spoke to Fox Sports earlier in the day, astounded with Day’s ability to play outside his comfort zone.

“He has fought on brilliantly, if any man should get a courage medal today it should be him,” Norman told Fox Sports.

“It has been a tremendous effort, the way he has kept hanging in there.”

Day’s manager Bud Martin released a statement on Day’s health following the Queenslander’s second round 70.

"Jason was diagnosed to have suffered from benign positional vertigo," Martin said.

"His condition is being monitored closely and he is hopeful he will be able to compete this weekend in the final rounds of the U.S. Open."

Day withdrew from last month's AT&T Byron Nelson because of dizziness and had similar symptoms during the final round of April's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Day also withdrew from last year's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio because of vertigo.
