It's on: Roy Keane challenged to fight by WWE star Wade Barrett

Former Manchester United and Ireland captain Roy Keane has always been a hardman, but this time maybe even he's bitten off more than he can chew.

Keane, who's currently an assistant coach for the Republic of Ireland international team, decided to vent his frustrations about former teammate Wayne Rooney yesterday, bemoaning the latter's effort in United's 0-0 draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

He also questioned some of Rooney's public appearances and said he wasn't playing as a captain.  “I saw him last week at some wrestling, slapping a wrestler and I’m thinking why is he getting involved in all that nonsense?” Keane said.

Well, it seems Rooney has an ally in said wrestler, WWE star Wade Barrett (real name Stu Bennett), who took to Twitter to state he'd like a piece of Keane.  "If Roy Keane's looking for a piece, I'll batter him too," he tweeted.

To some it may seem like a miss-match - ex-professional footballer against current professional wrestler - but, as anyone who knows football with testify to, Keane was more than just a world class player on the field, he was an enforcer who was never afraid to take a red card to satisfy his thirst for winning.

Of course, the likelihood of Keane and Barrett ever squaring off is a billion-to-one; but they ever did, you'd imagine Barrett would've picked the wrong footballer to pick on.

The above video shows why.
