Manchester’s Champions League hopes hang in the balance after a frustrating night at Old Trafford.

United need to beat Wolfsburg away on December 8 to guarantee qualification to the last 16.

Keane, who played 326 games for Manchester United in a 12-year career, hammered Rooney’s “lack of composure and quality” against PSV.

Keane said Rooney wasn’t performing as a captain and questioned his decision to attend a WWE wrestling event earlier this month.

“I saw him last week at some wrestling, slapping a wrestler and I’m thinking why is he getting involved in all that nonsense?” Keane said.

“There’s no benefit to him, so I’d look at that side.

“It’s certainly not helping him. I certainly don’t begrudge a player going out and enjoying himself, but you’ve gotta lead by example and he didn’t do that tonight.”
