Round 2
Richmond v Carlton, MCG, Thursday March 27

Given the fact they got 94,690 people to a dramatic Elimination Final last year, this could be the biggest blockbuster of the home-and-away season, and it's happening in Round 2. The Tigers will be hell bent on atoning for that loss last season – one where they became the first and probably only side to ever lose a final to a ninth-placed opponent – while Carlton will also be looking to maintain a fine recent record over the Tigers as Mick Malthouse looks to build on his first season in charge at the club.

Round 3
Hawthorn v Fremantle, MCG, Friday April 4

Talk about rubbing your face in it. Not only do Fremantle have to come over to Melbourne for the grand final rematch, they have to put up with the Hawks unfurling the premiership flag just before the game. If that doesn't fire up the likes of Hayden Balantyne – possibly the worst player on the ground in the 2013 grand final – then nothing will. Expect this to be an absolute belter.

Round 6
Collingwood v Essendon, MCG, Friday April 25

There's always something special about Anzac Day and this one promises to be no different as the Magpies look to atone for last year's disappointing effort on one of the game's biggest stages. The Bombers on the flip side will be looking to get back to winning ways against the Pies after being obliterated by them late in the season as their year completely fell apart. But honestly, there probably doesn't really need to be a reason to watch these two old enemies tear hides off each other.

Round 6
Melbourne v Sydney, MCG, Sunday April 27

One of the controversial Sunday night matches at the MCG, but it should be an intriguing clash as Paul Roos and his new Melbourne side take on the Sydney Swans for the first time. This one could very easily be a big loss to Melbourne – given their recent record against the Swans – but there's sure to be fireworks given the nasty fallout that's emerged out of Sydney following Roos' appointment.

Round 7
Carlton v Collingwood, MCG, Friday May 2

It doesn't get any bigger than this does it? Mick Mathouse taking on his old club and Dale Thomas – fresh from walking out on the Pies – coming face to face with his former team-mates. This may depend on Thomas' dodgy ankle standing up but expect their to be more fireworks than usual in this encounter.

Round 8
Sydney v Hawthorn, ANZ Stadium, Friday May 9

Buddy Franklin looks likely to take on the Hawks for the first time in a massive Friday night clash. Interesting to see how Franklin's old team-mates react to seeing him in new colours and to see whether Franklin can rise to the occasion.

Round 15
Geelong v Essendon, Etihad Stadium, Friday June 27

It may be the depths of winter by then but the action will be seriously hot as one-year coach Mark Thompson and an Essendon side possibly including Paul Chapman take on their old side in Geelong. Mathew Stokes has already said he plans on niggling 'angry old man Chappy' so expect the bald warrior to be especially fired up in this encounter. That being said, it's around this time that Essendon usually go into their late-season siesta mode so maybe a runaway win for the Cats!
