Wozniacki fine with top spot

Dane Caroline Wozniacki said she's not pressured by her No.1 seeding at the US Open starting Monday.

The world No.2 was elevated to the top seed in the women's singles after Serena Williams pulled out of the Flushing Meadows tournament due to a foot injury.

But Wozniacki, who won the lead-up Pilot Pen Tennis event in New Haven on the weekend, said she's comfortable with her name being at the top of the draw despite the fact she's yet to win a Grand Slam.

"Pressure is when you are put on the spot and you don't feel like you belong there, don't think you deserve to be there," the 20-year-old said.

"I feel like I deserve to be where I am and I'm feeling comfortable."

Vying for favouritism with the likes of past winners Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova, Wozniacki will have to fight off the pair in a tough side of the draw if she is to realise her 'dream' of winning the US Open.

"It's about playing well at the right moments, taking your chances and having a little bit of luck. Everything has to come together," she said.

"To be the number one seed at a grand slam, that feels good. To win the matches I still have to play well. To win a grand slam I have to win seven matches and that's not easy."

A finalist 12 months ago in New York, Wozniacki said she will walk taller after making her debut Slam final at the event.

"My fitness level has definitely improved (since last year). I've gotten better little by little," she said.

"I don't think too much has changed since last year. More people are talking about my game. I'm still the same person. I still love playing tennis."

"Making the final here gave me a lot of confidence and belief I could do it. I kept working hard and getting better and hopefully I can do it again."

Wozniacki kicks off her campaign with a Round 1 clash against American wildcard Chelsey Gullickson.
