Caroline Wozniacki won a tough three-set battle against Elena Dementieva to reach the final of the WTA Pilot Pen event in Connecticut.

The Dane battled to a 1-6 6-3 7-6 (7-5) victory and will contest her third-successive final at the event.

After being thumped in the first set, the top seed at the US Open fought back impressively.

Wozniacki failed to convert three match points in the final set as the match went to a tiebreaker and she looked in trouble with Dementieva leading 3-0.

But Wozniacki showed the courage required to win the tiebreak 7-5 and clinch the victory.

She has never lost at the Pilot Pen event and holds a brilliant 12-0 tournament record.

The 2009 US Open finalist will face Russian Nadia Petrova in the final after she emerged victorious from an all-Russian semi-final against Maria Kirilenko.

Petrova won 2-6 6-2 6-2, despite making a whopping 33 unforced errors in the first set.

She was not broken after the first set as Petrova made the most of Kirilenko's back injury.

"I saw she had difficulties moving," she said.

"So that was my first goal, keep her on the run, make her stretch, use my serve as a weapon, try to win as many free shots as possible. Then put pressure on her serve, try to be a little bit more aggressive so she has to come up with the amazing shot."

Petrova was the winner of the final wild-card for the tournament after Ana Ivanovic withdrew with an ankle problem.

She has not made a final since 2008.
