Wimbledon moved to help with Roland Garros recovery

Wimbledon has been moved back a week in tennis' schedule to aid players' recovery from the French Open.

The two grand slam tournaments have traditionally been just a fortnight apart, giving contenders little time to adjust their approach on clay for the grass season.

However, at the All England Club's spring press conference, a new three-week period to rest and prepare has been confirmed.

The move also sees the introduction of new grass-court events to the ATP Tour in Stuttgart and Nottingham as well as a new competition on the WTA Tour in the English city.

Tuesday's conference also revealed that the Wimbledon prize pot has once again been boosted, with the men's and women's champions set to take home £1.88 million – a £120,000 increase from last year.
