Wawrinka battles back to overcome Berdych in Rotterdam

Stan Wawrinka clinched the title at the ATP World Tennis Tournament with a come-from-behind success over Tomas Berdych in Rotterdam on Sunday.

The Swiss went a set down in the showpiece of the ATP 500 tournament, but showed impressive resolve to fight his way back and eventually prevail 4-6 6-3 6-4.

Berdych looked on course to defend the title he won last year - when he defeated Marin Cilic in straight sets - but Wawrinka refused to give in and extended his winning sequence over his opponent to six matches.

Victory marks Wawrinka's second of 2015, following his success at the Chennai Open last month.

Berdych made the breakthrough in the seventh game of the opening set when Wawrinka sent a backhand long to give the Czech the advantage.

Wawrinka saved one set point and then forced a break-back point in game 10, but Berdych was able to hold his nerve and take the opener.

A forehand winner in game eight of the second set gave Wawrinka the chance to level the match in his next service game, and the world number eight made no mistake to force a decider.

Wawrinka, seeded fourth for the tournament, made an ideal start to the final set when he broke Berdych immediately, and a second break to go 4-1 up gave him some breathing space.

Two unforced errors saw Berdych claw one of those breaks back straight away, but he could repeat the trick as Wawrinka served out in game 10 to seal his ninth Tour title.
