China's world number 251 stunned the Australian top seed on Tuesday with a determined show of lasting power, but her victory on Wednesday was a more dominant affair, overcoming the Croatian qualifier 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Wang passed over three set points when leading the opener 5-4, but took her first opportunity in the eventual tie-break.

And the 20-year-old gave up just three points on serve in the second set, storming into the last eight where she will meet compatriot Zhang Kailin - vanquisher of Alison Riske 6-2 7-5.

Alize Cornet is the only seed remaining in the competition after a first two days of upsets, and the French second seed's quality again told as she beat Shahar Peer 3-6 7-5 6-1.

Awaiting Cornet in the next round is Chinese Taipei's Hsieh Su-wei after a straightforward 6-4 6-2 triumph over Zhu Lin.

Monica Niculescu and Monica Puig are separated by just one place in the WTA rankings and will meet for the first time in the next round after straight-sets wins over Misaki Doi and Zhang Ling respectively.

The other quarter-final tie will see Timea Bacsinszky and Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor clash after they overcame Silvia Soler-Espinosa and Xu Yi-fan on Wednesday.
