Samantha Stosur staged an upset three-set victory over top seed Vera Zvonareva in the quarter-finals of the AEGON International on Friday.

Australian Stosur, seeded seventh for the Wimbledon warm-up event in Eastbourne, came from a set down to beat the Russian 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-4.

Stosur conceded what could have been a fatal 12 break-point opportunities, but world no.3 Zvonareva could only capitalize on three of them.

And the 26-year-old's failure to take those chances would see her bow out after two hours and 48 minutes of a tight contest.

Awaiting Stosur in the semi-finals is Marion Bartoli of France, who benefited from the retirement of third seed Victoria Azarenka.

Bartoli, seeded sixth, led the Belarusian 6-2 2-0 when Azarenka was forced to pull out with what is believed to be a hip injury.

In the other half of the women's singles draw, Daniela Hantuchova ended Venus Williams' comeback from injury with a 6-2 5-7 6-2 victory.

American Williams, playing in her first tournament since the 2010 Australian Open, gave up her serve six times in the match, losing in two hours and 23 minutes.

Next up for Slovak Hantuchova is a semi-final against fifth seed Petra Kvitova.

Czech Kvitova recovered from a comprehensive first-set loss to beat Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 1-6 6-2 7-6 (7-2).
