Sergiy Stakhovsky continued his excellent form at the ATP Pilot Pen Tennis event in Connecticut, winning through to the final on Friday.

The Ukrainian breezed through his semi-final win courtesy of a 6-3 6-4 straight-sets victory over Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker.

It took 83 minutes to decide the result as the ninth seed dropped just 10 points on his serve.

Stakhovsky was playing his third game in two days after he completed and won a rain-affected match against Tomas Berdych before toppling top-seed Marcos Baghdatis on Thursday.

A tired Stakhovsky was excited with his performance.

"I'm alive. I'm here, 17 hours later. (I'm) quite happy," he said.

"I played one of the best matches I could play in the semis. I think this is the only match I didn't face a break point at all."

Stakhovsky is hoping to become the first Ukrainian to win two ATP World Tour titles in a season since Andrei Medvedev achieved the feat in 1994. Stakhovsky won earlier in the year at s-Hertogenbosch.

He will face 15th-seed Denis Istomin in the final on Saturday after the Uzbekistani defeated Serb Viktor Troicki in three difficult sets 7-6 (12-10) 3-6 6-2.

Istomin will hope to become the first player from his native country to win an ATP World Tour title.

The 23-year-old, coached by his mother Klaudiya, was pleased to reach the final after an injury last week.

"I retired in the second round in Cincinnati with an ankle strain and I left it to the last moment to decide to play here. Now I'm in final ... it's just like that," Istomin said.

"Every match I win is very important here for the US Open. I need more matches to be at my best. Now I've won four straight matches. It's very good. Good condition for US Open now."
