Rudolph, a second-round pick out of Notre Dame in the 2011 draft, has agreed to a deal believed to be worth $36.5million over five years.

The 24-year-old has impressed in his three years in Minnesota and was the Most Valuable Player at the Pro Bowl in 2012.

And Rudolph is relishing the challenge of the upcoming season as the Vikings look to bounce back after going 5-10-1 last term.

"I'm extremely excited to get this extension completed and continue my career with the Minnesota Vikings," Rudolph told the franchise's official website.

"I've said all along I wanted to stay in Minnesota. I love the fans, the community and, most importantly, I'm excited about where this team is going.

"I'm looking forward to the 2014 season and helping this organization reach our ultimate goal."

Meanwhile, injuries continue to dominate the news from training camps as NFL teams step up their preparations for the new campaign.

The New York Jets' rookie first-round pick Calvin Pryor suffered a concussion on Saturday, while San Francisco 49ers' running-back LaMichael James is set to be out for a month after reportedly sustaining a dislocated elbow.
