Roger Federer hints at French Open absence

The world number four has featured in all 57 grand slams since 2000 and is expecting a third child with wife Mirka this year.

While it is not known when the child is expected, Federer has confirmed he would miss tournaments to support his wife if required.

Federer also hinted that it could be the French Open he misses - a competition he won once in 2009 and that gets under way this year on May 25.

"It's a priority for me trying to be there, trying to support my wife," he said at the Monte Carlo Masters on Wednesday.

"I've played enough tennis matches. Missing a tournament or missing a match wouldn't change anything for me.

Asked on the possibility of missing Roland Garros, he explained: "Yeah, let's talk about it when it would happen. At the moment, we hope it's not going to be that way.

"If it is, that's what it is, you know."
