Spanish second seed Tommy Robredo blitzed local Renzo Olivo 6-1 6-2 in their second-round encounter at the Argentina Open on Thursday.

Robredo - winner of the ATP World Tour event in 2009 - broke serve four times throughout as he disposed of the Argentinean wildcard in 65 minutes on court.

The win earned Robredo an all-Spanish quarter-final against Nicolas Almagro, who defeated countryman Albert Ramos 6-3 6-4.

"He hits the ball very hard, and I have to stay attentive and try to take the initiative," Robredo said of Almagro.

"Now I have to rest, enjoy this victory and prepare for a battle tomorrow."

Almagro served seven aces and saved both break points to maintain his 100 per cent record against the world number 68 in their fourth career meeting.

The 2012 runner-up will contest his eighth quarter-final in 11 appearances in the Argentina capital.

Home favourite Carlos Berlocq also moved into the last eight with a straight-sets victory over Fabio Fognini.

The world number 74 needed less than an hour to progress against the Italian - winning through 6-3 6-0 to set up a quarter-final meeting with Slovenia's Blaz Rola.

Fognini had won the pair's only previous meeting - a victory in last year's Davis Cup - but quickly found himself behind as Berlocq broke in the opening game.

The world number 22 saved just one break point in the first set before Berlocq finished strongly to reel off the final 10 games.

It represents his first quarter-final on home soil since 2012, with Rola next up after a similarly convincing 6-2 6-1 victory over Argentine qualifier Facundo Bagnis.
