The Spaniard defeated Novak Djokovic 3-6 7-5 6-2 6-4 to claim his fifth consecutive Roland Garros triumph and his ninth in total.

But 28-year-old Nadal, who has 14 grand slam titles to his name, insists he will not become complacent and that each trophy win will draw an emotional response.

"You want to enjoy the moment," he said. "You feel your emotions when you are there and you did it, because you know how you worked to be there.

"But at the same time, that's not forever, and you have a few more opportunities, yes, but you don't know if you're going to win it again.

"So the emotions were so high and there's a lot of people from my family here (in Paris), a lot of supporters, and Court Philippe Chatrier always is an emotional thing.

"Listening to the national anthem in that moment creates emotion too.

"So all the combination makes the moment really special, and especially in this court, which is the court I probably have most feelings for."
