Murray, Ferrer to contest Vienna Open final

The pair have been jostling for position just outside the top eight places for the end-of-season competition in London and Sunday's final could prove crucial in determining whether either man makes it.

With Milos Raonic's top-eight hopes threatened by his defeat to Ricardas Berankis in Russia, Murray and Ferrer continued to pile on the pressure with wins against Viktor Troicki and Philipp Kohlschreiber respectively.

Murray, seeking a return to the Tour Finals after missing out through injury last year, sealed progression to only his second ATP final of the season courtesy of a 6-4 6-3 victory against Serbian Troicki.

The performance marked Murray's sixth consecutive victory over Troicki as he seeks to become only the fifth active player to win 30 or more ATP titles.

And the Brit is eager to make continued improvements in his game.

"I've been getting a bit better with each match," Murray said.

"I need to play well on some key points. David will be tough for sure, he's very motivated, like myself, for London."

Ferrer was made to work hard for his 6-3 2-6 7-6 (7-3) win against fourth-seeded German Kohlschreiber, the second semi-final lasting almost two and a half hours.

After the pair shared the first two sets, Kohlschreiber appeared on course for his first triumph over Ferrer in eight meetings when he assumed a 4-2 lead in the final set.

However, Ferrer fought back before eventually sealing victory on a tie-break - breaking his opponent on two of the final three points.
