The Briton still harbours hopes of playing in the season-ending ATP World Tour finals in November, though he will have to improve on his current ranking of 11 in order to do so.

But he increased his chances after mounting a fine comeback to defeat Monaco 2-6 6-3 6-0 in the semi-finals of the ATP 250 hard-court event in China.

Murray, seeded second, started slowly but, with the scores locked at 3-3 in the second set, he reeled off nine straight games to progress in a time of one hour, 42 minutes.

The 27-year-old was boosted by 10 aces and clinically took six of the nine break-point opportunities he created.

Standing between Murray and a 26th ATP Tour title is Spain's Tommy Robredo, who defeated Santiago Giraldo 6-1 6-4.

The fourth seed also struck 10 aces in a dominant victory as he levelled his head-to-head record with Giraldo at 2-2.

The 32-year-old's last title came in Umag in July 2013 and he will be playing in his 21st ATP Tour final.

The match will mark the first meeting between Murray and Robredo since the former defeated the latter at Wimbledon en route to his 2013 triumph.
