Murray could reunite with Lendl - McEnroe

American tennis legend McEnroe expressed a desire to coach Murray in May after he split with Lendl earlier this year.

But the Scot ended up appointing former women's world number one Amelie Mauresmo last month in preparation for his Wimbledon defence.

That did not go to plan, however, as Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov cruised past him in straight sets in Wednesday's quarter-final.

And when quizzed about the result, McEnroe – who acknowledged it would be unfair to dispense with Mauresmo so soon – told the BBC that Murray and Lendl working together again was "still possible".

"Could I suggest the possible call to Lendl? I wouldn't put it past the two of them," he said.

"I think it would still be possible and possibly profitable for both of them.

"Having said that, I would give Amelie more of a chance.

"I think Mauresmo's done an excellent job coaching other people. There's no reason to suggest she can't do a good job coaching Murray.

"It would be unfair to her to fire her, because there's nothing you can do right before Wimbledon, when you're trying to defend your title."

Lendl helped Murray end his grand slam drought at the 2012 US Open before he became the first British winner of the men's singles title at Wimbledon since 1936 last year.
