Andy Murray became the first Briton to reach the landmark of 500 wins on the ATP Tour with a battling victory over Kevin Anderson in Miami on Tuesday.

The world number four joins an elite band of 46 players to achieve that feat in the Open era having beaten Anderson 6-4 3-6 6-3.

A comfortable opening set for Murray saw him take control of the fourth-round tie, but Anderson fought back well - reeling off the first four games of the second before levelling the match.

However, Murray dug deep and claimed his hard-earned win - which sees him join a list of just eight other active players on 500 Tour victories - in just over two hours.

The Scot will now face Dominic Thiem in the quarter-finals after he beat Adrian Mannarino 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 7-5.

He told Sky Sports: "Obviously it means a lot [to reach the milestone], there are not a lot of people who get to 500 wins, so it is very nice to have done that, and to do it in Miami was quite fitting as I have done a lot of hard yards on this court.

"I hope it's not the last I win I get, hopefully I can get a few more in my career.

"I expect a tough match [against Thiem], he's had good wins here this week. I practice with him quite a lot, he's a nice guy, he works hard and has got a big future ahead of him, I expect it will be a very tough match."
