Andy Murray booked his place in the last four of the ATP World Tour Finals with victory over David Ferrer in London on Thursday.

Murray was easily beaten by world number two Roger Federer in his second match of Group B on Tuesday, but the Scot bounced back to secure progression to the semi-finals with a 6-2 6-2 win over Spaniard Ferrer.

Fifth seed Murray made a slow start in the match at the O2 Arena, finding himself 2-0 down against the 28-year-old before rallying to win six games in a row and take the first set, which was enough in itself for the Scot to join group winner Federer in the semi-finals.

Murray broke early in the second, but Ferrer hit back to level at 2-2.

But the world number seven proved unable to hold his own serve as Murray again took the advantage, and the Spaniard missed the opportunity to break back as Murray saved two break points.

Ferrer conceded his sixth break of the match to find himself 2-5 down, before Murray served out to end the contest in just 69 minutes.

The loss means seventh seed Ferrer finishes the tournament with a 0-3 record after earlier defeats to Federer and Swede Robin Soderling.

Murray, who is now set to overtake Robin Soderling and climb to fourth in the rankings, will likely face Rafael Nadal in the semi final, if the world number one secures top spot in Group A with victory over Tomas Berdych on Friday as expected.
