Muguruza makes last eight in Florianopolis

Muguruza only needed 59 minutes to record a 6-2 6-1 win at the WTA International hard-court event in Florianopolis.

The Spaniard will be joined in the last eight by sixth seed Alexandra Cadantu and Yaroslava Shvedova after they both secured comfortable second-round wins.

Cadantu defeated Dinah Pfizenmaier 6-2 6-3, while Shvedova needed just under two hours to beat Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova 6-2 7-5.

Seventh seed Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor will not be in contention for the title though after she was beaten in the first round by local hope Teliana Pereira 6-4 6-3.

Czech Klara Zakopalova had no such problems in her opening match of the tournament as she beat Croatia's Donna Vekic 6-3 6-3.

Kiki Bertens set up a clash with top seed Carla Suarez Navarro in the second round as she beat Kazakh qualifier Sesil Karatantcheva 6-4 1-6 6-2.

In other matches, Alize Lim outlasted Johanna Larsson 7-6 (7-5) 2-6 6-4, Danka Kovinic cruised past Paula Goncalves 6-3 6-1, Alexandra Dulgheru eventually won 6-1 7-6 (7-5) over Mariana Duque-Marino and Alison Van Uytvanck trumped Su-Wei Hsieh 6-3 6-2.
