Gael Monfils wasted no time booking a quarter-final spot at the Nastase Tiriac Trophy as he beat Mikhail Youzhny in under an hour in Bucharest.

The Frenchman has continued his fine form from the Monte Carlo Masters, where he reached the semi-finals, and brushed aside Youzhny 6-1 6-2.

Monfils, the second seed, won five successive games in each set to crush any hopes his opponent had of finding his form and set up a last-eight clash with Simone Bolelli.

Eighth seed Bolelli was similarly impressive on Thursday as he cruised past Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-4 6-4, the Italian breaking late in the first set and early in the second.

World number 13 - and top seed in Romania - Gilles Simon also moved into the closing rounds of the competition as he beat wildcard Janko Tipsarevic 7-5 6-4.

Simon was too good for the returning Serb, who is still rebuilding his game following foot problems in 2014.

The Frenchman will meet Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who beat qualifier Nikola Mektic 7-5 6-2.
