Miami return for Del Potro

Juan Martin del Potro - Cropped

Juan Martin del Potro has confirmed he will take his spot in the Miami Open field, with the ATP 1000 tournament starting on Wednesday.

The one-time US Open winner was set to receive a wildcard into the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, before pulling out at the 11th hour.

But Del Potro has confirmed he will participate in his second tournament of the season - having last played at the Apia International in Sydney in January.

A recurrence of his left wrist injury caused him to skip the Australian Open and Argentina's Davis Cup World Group tie with Brazil.

"Two months exact from the last surgery, I can give you nice news: I will play in Miami," a Facebook post from Del Potro read.

"With the support of my team and the doctor Richard Berger, I am going to take another step in a recovery which, as you know, it takes time.

"Makes me glad to be in this tournament, so special for the amount of Latino fans and Argentines in particular.

"See you next week!"
