Johanna Konta enjoyed a 6-4 4-6 6-3 victory over world No.20 Garbine Muguruza on Wednesday only days after defeating world No.8 Ekaterina Makarova 6-2 6-4 at the grasscourt tournament.

Born in Sydney, the 24-year-old represented Australia at the start of her career in 2008 but switched her allegiance to Britain after becoming a UK citizen in 2012.

A late bloomer, Konta hasn't enjoyed much success on the WTA tour, having not yet won a title, but achieved a career-high ranking of 89 in July 14 on the back of strong form on the ITF tour - the womens second tier competition.

A current ranking of 146 will be significantly improved on with Konta's victories over Makarova and Muguruza and will rise further if she achieves victory in her next match against world no.31 Belinda Bencic.

Konta attributes her sudden significant improvement to renewed mental strength.

"It’s been a lot of work on being more relaxed and being more stress-free, and obviously that has an effect on how my muscles react," Konta said.

"I’m not as tense. And obviously the more fluid you are, the looser you are, the less likely you’re going to get stress-related injuries."

With Aussie women's tennis currently struggling with inconsistent performances from players such as Sam Stosur, Jarmila Gajdosova and Anastasia Rodionova, Konta is a good news tennis story that is lost to Australia.
