Lepchenko comfortable, Garcia crashes out

Fifth seed Lepchenko was on court for little over an hour at the WTA international hard-court event in Seoul, as she ruthlessly dispatched of Olivia Rogowska 6-1 6-2.

The Uzbekistan-born American had beaten Rogowska on their one and only encounter at Indian Wells in 2012 and she once more had too much quality for an opponent ranked some 71 spots below her in the world rankings.

Rogowska was particular wasteful on her own serve, as Lepchenko forced six breaks throughout the contest.

Next up for Lepchenko is South Korean wildcard Han Na-lae, who defeated compatriot Jang Su-jeong 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 6-3.

However, Frenchwoman Garcia, seeded seventh, saw her participation ended by Germany's Mona Barthel in a 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 victory.

Barthel, who defeated Garcia in Doha in 2012, fired down eight aces and won 84 per cent of first-serve points as Garcia limped out of the competition.

Christina McHale of the United States now awaits in round two following her 6-2 6-3 victory over Spain's Lara Arruabarrena.

Elsewhere, Chanelle Scheepers defeated Irina-Camelia Begu in three sets, while Anna-Lena Friedsam saw off Yaroslava Shvedova 7-6 (7-5) 7-5.
