Kyrgios bumps Federer from prime time

More: "We need more people like him" Bouchard on Kyrgios

Second seed Federer would normally be assured of the slot on center-court (scheduled for 9am Wednesday), but Kyrgios and third seed Andy Murray have been given the nod.

Kyrgios and his high-energy on-court antics pose a bigger drawcard than Federer and Leonardo Mayer.

It will likely be the only time Kyrgios gets a shot on centre court, with Murray the odds on favourite to go through to the second round.

Murray has beaten the controversial 20-year old twice in Grand Slams this year, each time in straight sets.

Kyrgios will team up with Canadian sensation Genie Bouchard in the mixed doubles and Thanassi Kokkinakis in the doubles.

Federer and his Argentine opponent will still play on the 22,000 seat court but will need to wait until after the Murray-Kyrgios encounter.

Kyrgios was heckled last month after his infamous “Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend” sledge directed at Stan Wawrinka.

Will we see similar scenes at Flushing Meadows on Wednesday?
