Kerber confident of breaking Fed Cup drought

The Germans last reigned in the women's team tournament in 1992, when now-captain Barbara Rittner was among the playing cohort as an upstart teenager.

The 10th-ranked Kerber has anchored Germany's Fed Cup charge beautifully, winning all four of her rubbers - all of which have been played on away soil in Bratislava and Brisbane.

The powerful left-hander will have to continue that theme in Prague, starting Saturday, despite some inconsistent WTA Tour form - Kerber most recently won three straight matches in July.

"I have a lot of confidence from the last two Fed Cup matches but of course every single match starts from zero," the 26-year-old said.

"But I think I am feeling good, I am healthy and I have practised good the last few weeks so right now I am looking forward and I am ready to go out there and play tennis."

Kerber, who resides in Puszczykowo, Poland, said there was pressure on both teams, and said the visiting support will be present in the Czech Republic.

"Of course the pressure is there but I think [there is] for the Czechs also," said Kerber.

"They are playing at home and the crowd is of course cheering more [for] the Czech team.

"But I think a lot of fans are coming from Germany to support us and that means a lot to all of us, but of course we will try to give our best and try to win and take the trophy with us to Germany."
