Top seed Jelena Jankovic survived an early scare to book her place in the second round of the Monterrey Open on Wednesday.

Spaniard Lourdes Dominguez Lino won on red clay in Bogota two weeks ago, but the Serb broke serve six times en route to a 6-4 6-1 win.

The 26-year-old Serb double-faulted three times to drop her opening service game, before recovering to cruise to home.

"Today was tough. My opponent played very well and hit a lot of slices," Jankovic said.

"I feel good about my game though. I only came here a few days ago and the conditions are different, but I'm happy to win. I enjoyed it out here."

"I love coming back to Monterrey. I was here last year and had a great time."

"The people are so nice and very welcoming. I want to thank you all so much for the support."

The only other first round match on Wednesday saw Argentine Gisela Dulko down the Czech Republic's Iveta Benesova, 6-2 7-6 (7-3).

In second-round action, defending champion and second-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, coming off a tough opening-round win over Eleni Daniilidou, had to work hard to beat American Melanie Oudin, 6-2 7-6 (8-6).

Sixth-seeded Sara Errani of Italy fell to Hungary's Greta Arn 4-6 7-5 6-4, in a two-hour, 50-minute second-round battle.

Slovenian Polona Hercog outlasted Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-2.

Olga Govortsova defeated Alla Kudryavtseva, 6-3 4-6 6-0 to move into the quarter-finals.
