Former world No.1 Jelena Jankovic defeated Anastasija Sevastova on Friday to reach the semi-finals of the WTA Monterrey Open.

Top seed Jankovic won 6-1 7-5 in just one hour and 11 minutes in their quarter-final at the Sierra Madre Tennis Club.

Serbian Jankovic is 32 places above Sevastova in the rankings at number six in the world.

And her superiority showed as she broke the Latvian six times while giving up her own serve just once to record a straightforward victory.

Jankovic will now meet Polona Hercog in the last four after the Slovakian came from a set down to defeat Olga Govortsova 4-6 6-3 6-3.

Eighth seed Hercog - ranked 62nd in the world to the Belarusian's 85th - saved an impressive nine out of 10 possible breaks to win through in two hours and six minutes.

In other quarter-final matches, Argentine Gisela Dulko made short work of 19-year-old Russian Ksenia Pervak.

Dulko needed 75 minutes to record a 6-1 6-0 victory and reach the semi-finals, where she will take on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Russian Pavlyuchenkova, the second seed, was made to fight in the second set by Hungary's Greta Arn before eventually triumphing 6-2 7-6 (7-3) in 90 minutes.
