Tipsarevic announces comeback in Miami doubles

Janko Tipsarevic - Cropped

Former world number eight Janko Tipsarevic is returning to competitive action for the first time since 2013, after being sidelined by injury.

Tipsarevic, ranked inside the top 10 in singles as recently as May 2013, will team up with world number one, and fellow Serbian, Novak Djokovic in the Miami Open men's doubles.

The 30-year-old had multiple operations on his left foot to remove a benign tumour, and also battled pneumonia in his 17-month absence from the ATP World Tour.

Tipsarevic confirmed he was returning to competition via Instagram on Tuesday.

"Seventeen months since I saw my name in a tennis tournament draw...Its [sic] been a long time coming...," he posted.

Tipsarevic and Djokovic's first-round opponents will be Jurgen Melzer and Robert Lindstedt, with a potential second-round date with top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan.
