American Jack Sock overcame a lengthy rain delay at the US Men's Clay Court Championship to capture his first ATP Tour title, with a straight-sets win against countryman and eighth seed Sam Querrey on Sunday.

Sock chalked up a 7-6 (11-9) 7-6 (7-2) victory in the all-American affair after one hour, 45 minutes in Houston - his maiden title in his first final.

A rain delay of over two hours halted play with Sock trailing 5-4 in the opening set but the 22-year-old returned to the court with renewed vigour after the break.

Sock rallied from 5-2 down in the tie-break and saved three set points to clinch the first.

Querrey jumped out to a 4-3 lead in the second set, only to be broken by Sock as another tie-break loomed.

The second tie-break was far more straightforward for Sock, who is expected to rise to a career-high world ranking of 36 after adding Querrey to his scalps in Houston having defeated seeds Roberto Bautista Agut (second), Santiago Giraldo (fifth) and Kevin Anderson (third) en route to the championship.
