Speaking on Triple M’s Deadset Legends on Saturday morning, Warren, who doesn’t usually come out with such incendiary remarks – unless they’re directed at Gus Gould – unleashed on Kyrgios.

“I just think it’s disgraceful,” the legendary commentator said about Kyrgios’ sledge to Stan Wawrinka earlier this week.

“I’ve heard of similar remarks being made in rugby league, and ok, that’s rugby league.

“But here we have two innocent people in my opinion being slandered by basically what is a foul mouthed – in his words – ‘sledge.’

“It’s just not what decent people do. Kyrgios obviously thought it was funny at the time.

“They will give him a namby-pamby suspension and I’ve said it before in rugby league with repeat offenders and trouble-makers taking the game down in the eyes of the public.

“They’ve got no right to take the image of the game down, and tennis will go down the same way as some of these other scoundrels, who by the way, Kyrgios makes them look like choirboys.”

A veteran of over 40-years in broadcasting, Warren later took Australia’s Davis Cup captain, Wally Masur to task.

“I was reading the papers this morning and Wally Masur said Kyrgios will be selected for the Davis Cup tie against Britain in September despite the controversy.

“And then he said, and I’m quoting the newspaper ‘Nick had his back to Stan who was 90-feet away and he mumbled it under his breath. No way was he actually being confrontational.’”

“That’s coming from the Davis Cup captain?!

“Is winning everything? Is winning everything to the point where we’re going to be accepting of what this Kyrgios has said?

“The only way to really pull Kyrgios into line is to take what he does best and loves best away from him.

“I don’t want him to be wearing the Australian colours either to be quite frank with you.”

Rabbits’ co-host and racing identity Richard Freedman agreed, saying: “If he’s in the Davis Cup team, I’m not watching the Davis Cup, I’m not talking about the Davis Cup, I’m ignoring it completely.

“I am ignoring it. It doesn’t exist to me if he’s in the team.”

Kyrgios has been under the pump since his comments towards Wawrinka at the Rogers Cup in Montreal this week, where he told the Swiss French Open champion “Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend.”

Kyrgios’ brother, Christos, waded into the drama on Friday by getting kicked off the Grill Team on Triple M mid-interview.
