The Briton has won four times round this circuit in the past, including victories in each of the past two seasons, and was fastest in both practice sessions on Friday.

Hamilton completed a treble of successes on Saturday, recording a fastest lap of one minute 24.048 seconds, 0.047secs ahead of team-mate and title rival Nico Rosberg.

The Red Bull duo of Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo were third and fourth respectively, while Williams' Valtteri Bottas was fifth, 0.637secs off the leading pace.

In dry conditions in Hungary, many of the teams started out on medium tyres, before switching to soft for the latter part of the session.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who finished sixth, went fastest with around 10 minutes remaining, but his time was soon beaten by Rosberg.

Hamilton laid down his marker with five minutes left by going 0.453secs faster than the German and although Rosberg was able to eat into that time with his final lap, he could not do enough to deny Hamilton a clean sweep of the practice sessions as the Briton aims to become the first man to win five times in Hungary.
