Australian fourth seed Jarmila Groth has advanced to the quarter-finals at the Malaysia Open with a straight sets victory on Friday.

Groth was far too good for Japan's Misaki Doi, winning 7-6 (8-6) 6-3 in just 88 minutes.

The Aussie will next face another Japanese player - Ayumi Morita - for a spot in the final four.

Dutchwoman Michaella Krajicek is also through to the last eight after she ousted third seed Alisa Kleybanova.

The half-sister to former Wimbledon champion Richard, Krajicek fought back from a deficit to triumph 3-6 6-4 6-3 in 130 minutes in Kuala Lumpur, setting up a quarter-final clash with Luxembourg's Anne Kremer.

The 22-year-old Krajicek showed she had plenty in common with the now-retired Richard as she struck 13 aces in the victory, including nine in the final two sets to surge past her Russian opponent and into the final eight.

Fifth seed Lucie Safarova edged out former world no.1 Dinara Safina 6-3 4-6 6-3 in 134 minutes to join Krajicek in the quarter-finals.

The Czech made the most of her only break point in the final set, while Safina will rue two missed opportunities to break in the decider.

Safarova will meet Marion Bartoli in the quarter-finals after the second seed accounted for Russia's Ekaterina Ivanova 6-2 6-1 in 87 minutes.
