Easy win for Federer

Roger Federer all but secured his place in the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals semis with an easy 6-4 6-2 win over Scotland's Andy Murray.

Wednesday's win moves the world No.2 to the top of Group B standings after his 6-1 6-4 demolition of David Ferrer on Sunday.

Although Murray has been something of a nemesis for the Swiss maestro this year, he simply never looked comfortable against the 16-time Grand Slam tournament winner at London's O2 Arena and dropped his serve to love in just the third game of the match.

Federer never came close to losing serve, with Murray failing to register a single break point in the rout while giving up eight on his own serve - three of which Federer was able to convert.

Trailing 4-5 with Federer serving for the first set, Murray gave the British fans something to cheer about when some aggressive play put him up 30-0. But he could not sustain it and Federer fought back to bring up set point with a brilliant smash into open court.

From there it was a procession, with Federer breaking Murray in his first two service games of the second set to take an 4-0 lead, before the Scot finally showed some resistance to get himself on the board in the set.

But three games later it was all over, as a Murray forehand sagged into the net and handed Federer the win in just one hour and 16 minutes.

Federer conceded after the match his opponent - who had won their last two encounters and holds an 8-6 edge in career meetings between the two - had not been at his peak.

"He's beaten me the last two times so I had my hands full today," he said. "I was surprised how clean it was - he didn't have his best match."
