Argentina's David Nalbandian is set to miss eight weeks of tennis following leg and groin surgery.

The 29-year-old suffered a hernia in his groin and also pulled a muscle in his lower leg during his four-set victory over Romania's Adrian Ungur in the Davis Cup World Group first round on Friday.

Nalbandian was visibly hampered by the injuries throughout the clash in Buenos Aires, pausing for long periods in between points, but he fought through the pain barrier to help Argentina through to a quarter-final meeting with Kazakhstan.

The world number 19 should be fit to play the French Open in May, according to spokesman Bernardo Ballero.

Nalbandian was forced to retire from his second-round clash at the Australian Open in January, citing fatigue.

He came back from hip surgery in 2009 and overcome an abdominal injury last season.
