Adopted Australians Jarmila Groth and Jelena Dokic both advanced to the semi-finals of the Malaysian Open early Saturday morning.

Groth, the fourth seed in Kuala Lumpur, ousted the red-hot Ayumi Morita of Japan 7-5 3-6 7-5 in 132 minutes.

The Slovakian-born Groth was facing an opponent who had conceded just six games in four sets on her way to the quarter-finals, but the Australian fended off the Morita challenge, saving 15 of 20 break points in the contest to prevail.

Groth will take on Lucie Safarova in the semi-finals, after the fifth-seeded Czech beat an error-riddled Marion Bartoli 6-1 6-4 in 87 minutes.

Safarova was the beneficiary of eight double faults from the Frenchwoman, who also struggled to handle the Czech's booming serve, which claimed 22 of 27 points on the first ball for the 24-year-old.

Dokic showed some of the class that took her to the world number four ranking in 2002, as she overcame Serbian teenager Bojana Jovanovski 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 in 99 minutes, striking seven aces in the victory.

"I felt very good today and it is of no surprise to me that I played well. I did not have any problems and I felt physically and mentally good," Dokic said.

The former Yugoslav will face Michaella Krajicek in the semi-finals, after the Dutchwoman accounted for Luxembourg qualifier Anne Kremer 6-2 6-3 in 86 minutes.
