Djokovic wary of Chardy

Second seed Djokovic made light work of Portugal's Joao Sousa as he powered through at a rain-affected French Open on Monday, setting up a meeting with Chardy.

World number 42 Chardy accounted for the second-round elimination of Roger Federer at the Internazionali d'Italia earlier this month, and Djokovic admits he will need to be wary of another potential upset.

"Considering my next opponent, playing a French tennis player in France, we all know how challenging that is," he said. "He had a big win against Federer in Rome, so I'm sure he's very motivated to play his best."

Djokovic provided one of the more light-hearted moments of day two at Roland Garros, engaging in a conversation with an umbrella-wielding ball boy during a second brief rain break.

"We had a nice chat," he added. "He's a tennis player, so I asked him how long he's playing, and how he's enjoying his time as a ball kid.

"Something unusual for the grand slams, but we waited for around 10 minutes in the pouring rain on the court, so I felt there was something I should do and make a new friend.

"He accepted the offer to sit down, which I didn't think he would do, but he did. So he's a very spontaneous little boy and I hope I see him in my next match.

"I didn't receive any tips from him for this match. I don't know why. Maybe next time, next match, I can speak with him again."
