Djokovic makes light work of helpless Wawrinka

After seeing his serve broken in the opening game, Djokovic bounced back emphatically to preserve his 100 per cent start to the season-ending tournament.

Australian Open champion Wawrinka - a 6-1 6-1 winner over Tomas Berdych in his Group A opener - will have been hugely encouraged when he battled his way into a 2-0 lead at the start of the encounter.

However, that joy was short-lived as Djokovic powered his way to the next five games, winning 15 out of 18 points in the process.

Wawrinka, who only managed to get 43 per cent of his first serves in during the first set, finally stopped the rot at 5-2 down, but had to survive a set point to reduce the deficit to two.

The Swiss held off a further set point at 40-0 down in the ninth game, but Djokovic soon put the set to bed and could not be accused of making another slow start in the second.

After breaking Wawrinka's serve in the first game, Djokovic claimed the second on his own delivery before winning the third to love.

There was no let-up from the world number one as he continued his victory march, with Wawrinka winning just three points on his own serve in the entire second set.

Djokovic's imperious nature knew no bounds as he effortlessly chased down a Wawrinka drop-shot in game two before executing the same tactic to perfection on his way to 3-0.

Having wrestled control of the encounter in the third game of the opening set, Djokovic saw out the match in comfortable fashion - winning his seventh game in a row to all but book his place in the semi-finals in little more than an hour.
