Djokovic eyes fifth Miami Open title

NovakDjokovic - Cropped

Novak Djokovic won the 50th ATP World Tour title of his outstanding career at Indian Wells on Sunday and the world number one warned his rivals that he plans to make it 51 at Miami Open this week.

The Serb beat Roger Federer to win the BNP Paribas Open for a fourth time and given his outstanding form, there will not be many backing against him following that up with another victory this week.

Djokovic followed up his triumph at Indian Wells last year by winning in Miami and he will take some stopping when he attempts to pull off that double for a third time.

The eight-time grand-slam winner is determined to make the most of being at the peak of his powers by winning yet more honours.

He said: "I am at the prime of my career. I'm going to try to use every part of this fact to stay where I am and to fight for as many major titles as possible. I know that my career, as any other career, cannot go forever.

"I don't play only for myself. I play for my family, friends, my country, the people around the world that support me."

Djokovic has won the Miami Open four times and he will not have to overcome Federer this week to take his tally to five.

The world number two has opted to take a break from competition following his loss in Indian Wells in order to prepare for the clay-court season, as well as spend time with his family.

Nadal has been a runner-up four times in Miami and the Spaniard will attempt to go one better this week after losing to Milos Raonic at the quarter-final stage in Indian Wells.

Two-time winner Andy Murray, 2014 semi-finalist Kei Nishikori and Raonic are also among the contenders at Crandon Park this week.

Djokovic will be the man to beat once again, though, in a tournament that he has dominated by winning it in three of the last four years.
