The Bulgarian seventh seed was trumped by Gael Monfils in the fourth round, the French 20th seed impressing with yet another straight sets victory 7-5 7-6 (8-6) 7-5.

Dimitrov said while he was happy to get out on centre court at Flushing Meadows, he noticed the difference between the big stadium and the outer courts.

"I played exciting matches and played on all the big courts. Today I was happy to get out on Ashe and get the feel for the court," he said.

"It's definitely different to play on that court. I take that as a good experience. But that doesn't help for the way I played today. I'm just disappointed. Just very simple."

He added: "The only good thing I can take is experience coming on that court. It's definitely a little different. The scenery is different. The surface is actually a little different. That's the one thing that I'll take with me."

Dimitrov said despite a breakthrough year, in which he first made a major quarter-final at the Australian Open before a semi-final run at Wimbledon, he wanted to pursue slam trophies.

"I'm 23, but I don't want to think that I'm young or something like that. I want to win majors. That's my main goal," he said.

"I'm not satisfied with my results so far, even though I have done probably - I have come into my best year of my tennis year.

"I'm not even close to being satisfied. I think that's one of the nicest things that I feel about it, is that I have that hunger to actually become better every tournament I play, even though I have lost quite a few tough matches this year."

Monfils conceded he was playing some of his best tennis, but the 28-year-old also agreed he had ridden his luck into the last eight.

"I'm happy I think because I played good. I think I played solid. I think I hit better the ball day after day; served better," he said.

"I keep like simple thing in my head, so obviously is working. Then it's luck. To be honest, look at set point. I hit one of the worst drop shots I ever hit and he hit a frame.

"It's pure luck, you know, to haven't drop a set. So you need to have it sometime, and I hope I will have more."
