Berlocq will face the fourth-seeded German in the second round of the ATP 250 event after defeating Austrian wildcard Gerald Melzer 6-3 7-6 (7-2).

In the only main draw match of the day, the world number 80 proved too good for Melzer - the younger brother of regular Tour player Jurgen - making five breaks en route to victory.

Berlocq also hit five aces in his win, which took one hour and 36 minutes to compile.

He burst out of the blocks, breaking in the very first game, and although Melzer hit back to level it at 2-2, parity did not last long.

Berlocq immediately broke back to love and another, in the ninth and final game of the first set, saw him take an early lead.

The 24-year-old Melzer initially responded, surging to a 5-3 lead in the second set, only for Berlocq to win the next three games.

That meant Melzer had to hold serve to stay alive and force a tie-break, which he did, but his opponent then raced to a 5-0 lead.

And that allowed Berlocq to cruise through and set up a match against Kohlschreiber, who enjoyed a first round bye.
