The Czech fifth seed reached his eighth tour-level semi-final of 2014 with a 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 6-4 victory over South Africa's Kevin Anderson in the French capital.

He therefore remains in the hunt for a third ATP title this year and is guaranteed to feature at the end-of-season finale for a fifth consecutive season.

Berdych initially fell behind against Anderson, who sits 13 places below him in the world rankings, but roared back with the help of 16 aces.

Having maintained his impressive head-to-head record over the South African, which now stands at 12 victories and no defeats, Berdych will now take his place in London next month.

Andy Murray ensured his qualification in Paris yesterday, joining Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Stanislas Wawrinka and Marin Cilic.
