Beck enjoys Luxembourg redemption

Beck

Beck was defeated by Caroline Wozniacki in last year's showpiece at the WTA International hard-court event, but suffered no such heartache this time around as she ran out 6-2 6-1 victor to claim her maiden Tour title.

Both the German and Zahlavova Strycova went into the match having not dropped a set in the tournament, but Beck was a woman on a mission and simply had too much for the fourth-seeded Czech.

World number 60 Beck set her stall out early, securing a double-break to swiftly move 3-0 up in the opening set.

Zahlavova Strycova stemmed the tide with breaks back in the fourth and seventh games, but those mini fightbacks sandwiched a further break from Beck, who duly wrapped up the set by holding at 5-2 ahead.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with Beck racing into a 4-0 advantage courtesy of another double break and two holds.

The fourth seed ensured she would not suffer the ignominy of a 6-0 hammering in the second set by struggling to a hard-earned hold in the fifth game, but that was merely delaying the inevitable.

Fittingly, Beck rounded matters off with another break, sealing the title on her first match point of the contest.
