There will be five Australian men in the main draw of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells after Marinko Matosevic, Chris Guccione and Matthew Ebden all qualified on Wednesday.

Eighth seed Matosevic comfortably beat Serbian Dusan Vemic in the first round, but was made to work a lot harder against South African Raven Klaasen.

Matosevic won a close first set before landing the crucial break in the second to seal the 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 result.

Guccione found his range with serve as he powered his way to a 6-4 6-3 victory over Spaniard Daniel Munoz-De La Nava.

The 25-year-old didn't face a break point the entire match and remarkably lost just one point on his first serve.

17th seed Ebden joined his compatriots in the main draw after he defeated South African Izak Van Der Merwe 6-4 7-5.

The only Australian to falter on Wednesday was Greg Jones, who was beaten 6-2 6-4 by Indian Somdev Devvarman.

The trio join Lleyton Hewitt and wildcard Bernard Tomic in the main draw of the first Masters tournament of the year.
