The Spaniard lasted tasted victory on the tour in April 2012, but he brought his drought to an end in the ATP 250 clay-court event in Switzerland on Sunday.

He won in straight sets that day, against Albert Ramos in the Grand Prix Hassan II, and it was a similar story this time around as he saw off Monaco in straight sets.

The world number 71 saved a break point at 3-3, and was able to make inroads of his own in the very next game, breaking his opponent after Monaco had taken a 40-15 lead.

Monaco hit back strongly in the second set and raced into a 4-1 lead courtesy of a break to 30 in game two.

At 5-3 up, the Argentinian had the chance to hold his serve and take the match into a decider, but Andujar found an extra gear to surge to victory.

Andujar, who knocked out his fourth-seeded compatriot Fernando Verdasco in the semi-final, reeled off four successive games to clinch the win, earning 250 rankings points and €77,315 in the process.

For world number 105 Monaco, however, it was an 11th defeat in 19 tour finals.
