Samantha Stosur has stormed into quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells with a comfortable straight sets win over Vera Zvonareva, which assures her of a place in the top 10 when the rankings are released next week.
The eighth-seed was hardly troubled against the highly rated Russian and dominated from the outset taking the first set 6-2.
Zvonareva lifted her game in the second set but Stosur had too much firepower, eventually closing out the match 7-5 in the second.
The win takes Stosur into the top 10 on the WTA tour for the first time in her career, but she is remaining focused on her next match against Spainiard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, who beat 13th seed Yanina Wickmayer 6-4 6-4.
"I try and stay focused on what I have to do to win the next point and the next game. You know you can think about those things afterwards," she said.
"I guess I have been able to find good form a bit more consistently at the start of this year which is nice and certainly gives me a lot of confidence."
"I know if I can do it back to back weeks at the moment then who knows what can happen at the end of the year. It is a good feeling and I am just going to keep riding it."
Fellow Australian Alicia Molik - the last Australian woman to break into the top 10 - wasn't so lucky, falling just short against China's Jie Zheng in a match that lasted two hours and 25 minutes.
Molik lost the opening set 6-3 to the Australian Open semi-finalists but fought back to take the second 6-4 before losing in a third set tie break.
Next up for Jie is Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki who steamrolled Nadia Petrova in the third set of their fourth-round tie to reach the last eight.
The Dane had a blip in the second set as Petrova fought back, but she showed her class to come through and win 6-3 3-6 6-0.
Petrova won just two points on second serve as she fell apart in the third set.
There were routine straight-set wins for the fourth and fifth seeds, Elena Dementieva and Agnieszka Radwanska, who will meet in the last eight.
Dementieva beat 19th seed Aravane Rezai 6-3 6-3, while Poland's Radwanska beat another Frenchwoman, Marion Bartoli, 6-3 6-2.
Sixth seed Jelena Jankovic also had a comfortable win, crushing Shahar Peer 6-2 6-2 in less than an hour.
