Australian fifth-seed Samantha Stosur has advanced to the final 16 of the US Open in straight sets, toppling Italian Sara Errani 6-2 6-3.
Stosur dominated from the outset against Errani, breaking her opponent twice to cruise through the first set.
The French Open finalist failed to hold serve in the fifth game of the second set as Errani went ahead 3-2, but Stosur broke the Italian's serve twice to go ahead 5-3 and serve out the match.
She will meet No.12 seed Elena Dementieva in the fourth round after the Russian overcame No.24 seed Daniela Hantuchova 7-5 6-2.
Hantuchova served for the first set at 5-3 but her Russian opponent broke twice to go up 6-5 and then serve out the set.
Dementieva had a much easier time in the second, breaking Hantuchova twice to wrap up the match in one hour and 31 minutes.
Meanwhile, defending champion Kim Clijsters has advanced to the fourth round after a 6-3 6-0 victory over Petra Kvitova on Friday.
Clijsters got off to a poor start against her Czech opponent, failing to hold her serve twice as Kvitova raced to a shock 3-0 lead in the first set.
But the No.2 seed broke back in the fourth game and was faultless onwards, winning the next five games to take the first set and cruising through the second in 25 minutes.
Clijsters' 17th-straight victory at Flushing Meadows sends her into a showdown with the winner of the third-round clash between Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano and former world No.1 Ana Ivanovic.
