Top seed Caroline Wozniacki and former world No.1 Maria Sharapova set up a dream fourth-round meeting at the US Open after equally impressive wins on a windy Saturday at Flushing Meadows.

Wozniacki, runner-up in New York 12 months ago, thrashed Taiwan's Yung-Jan Chan 6-1 6-0, while Sharapova went one better in a 6-0 6-0 defeat of American teenager Beatrice Capra.

Wozniacki has dropped just three games so far and remains the one to beat after world No.1 Serena Williams' withdrawal before the tournament.

"I think I've shown I belong where I am and I'm just happy to be through to the fourth round," said the Dane, who has won three of her last four tournaments.

"For me, it's just about winning the matches. I think it's up to everyone else to judge what I've shown or not shown. For me it's just important that I've won these three matches pretty comfortably."

"It would be a great victory (against Sharapova) but when I go out there I really don't think too much about who is on the other side. I just want to do what I'm supposed to do out there on court, and I want to win."

"It really doesn't matter who's on the other side. I feel like I'm playing well, so hopefully I can just keep my roll. I don't feel the pressure. My time will come. If it won't come now, it will come tomorrow, so I'm not afraid of that."

Sharapova was far too strong for Capra, who has a ranking of 371 and is officially listed as an amateur on her WTA profile.

Capra's run to the third round included a victory over 18th seed Aravane Rezai, easily her biggest career scalp so far.

Jelena Jankovic was the biggest casualty of the day, the fourth seed falling to Estonia's Kaia Kanepi 6-2 7-6 (7-1).

The Serb endured two three-set matches in her opening games in New York before succumbing to the 31st seed.

Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated compatriot Maria Kirilenko 6-3 6-4 in the night match on Arthur Ashe Stadium to set up a clash with Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova, who lost one game in dismissing Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-0 6-1.

Belgian 15th seed Yanina Wickmayer won an epic battle against veteran Swiss Patty Schnyder 7-6 (7-5) 3-6 7-6 (8-6) to set up a clash against Kanepi.

Andrea Petkovic had the easiest pathway into the fourth round after China's Peng Shuai pulled out of their scheduled clash due to injury.

Russian seventh seed Vera Zvonareva defied early breaks in both sets to run out a 6-2 7-6 (7-2) winner over Romania's Alexandra Dulgheru.
