Davydenko's woes continue

Davydenko's woes continue

07/23/2010 02:28:01 AM

Top seed Nikolay Davydenko's troubled season continued when he crashed out in the third round of the German Open in Hamburg to Kazakhstan's world number 82 Andrey Golubev.

Golubev needed just 89 minutes to wrap up one of the best wins of his career 6-4 6-4 and heap more woe upon Davydenko, who is making a stuttering comeback after three months out with a broken wrist.

Sixth seed Juan Carlos Ferrero remained on course for his third tour title of the year with a 6-2 3-6 6-4 win over Finland's Jarkko Nieminen, while third seed Jurgen Melzer beat Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 7-5 7-6 (7-4).

German 10th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber and wild card Julian Reister both bowed out to Thomaz Bellucci and Denis Istomin respectively, but Florian Mayer was a home winner with a 7-6 (7-1) 6-0 victory over Argentina's Maximo Gonzalez.
